SUBJECT: COMMUNITY & SERVICE
TOPIC: CHARITY & OUTREACH-Learn importance of serving others
KEY LESSON: 30 MINUTES
TEACHING OUTLINE:
INTRODUCTION
“If you saw someone carrying something heavy, what could you do?”
When we notice that somebody needs help and choose to do something about it, we are learning to serve.
Serving isn't only for adults. Children can serve too. We can serve through our time, abilities, kind words, helpful actions, and the things we have.
What Does It Mean to Serve Others?
Serving others means using what you have and what you can do to help, encourage, or benefit someone else.
A child serves when he or she willingly helps another person rather than always thinking, “What will I get?
Charity and outreach are expressions of love in action.
We don't only say that we care about people. When there is something appropriate we can do to help, encourage, give or serve, we act.
DEFINITION OF DIFFICULT WORDS
Charity: Showing love, generosity and kindness to others, especially by giving or helping.
Outreach: An organized effort to reach people and provide help, encouragement or support.
Service: Doing something that helps or benefits another person.
Serve: To willingly help or do something useful for another person.
Compassion: Caring about another person's difficulty and being moved to helpappropriately.
Generosity: A willingness to give and share freely.
Community: A group of people who live, learn, work or worship together.
Need: Something important that a person requires or lacks.
Good Works: Helpful and good actions that demonstrate godly character.
Opportunity: A suitable occasion or situation in which you can do something.
CORE SCRIPTURES (KJV) 12 RELEVANT SCRIPTURES
1. Galatians 5:13
“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an
occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”
2. Matthew 20:26–28
“But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
3. Philippians 2:4
“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
4. Hebrews 6:10
“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
5. 1 Peter 4:10
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
BIBLE STORY: The Story of the Good Samaritan - Luke 10:25-37.
A man was beaten and left on the road with a great need. A priest and a Levite saw him but passed by. But a Samaritan, who was not even expected to help, was moved with compassion. He went to him, cleaned his wounds, took him to an inn, and paid for his care. He saw a need, used the opportunity, served with generosity, and showed charity. Jesus said, "Go and do thou likewise.
CORE LESSON
Our God is a giver. The Bible says in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Everything about our God is giving, love, and
kindness. When we received Christ, we received the nature of God which is the nature of love and generosity. Therefore, charity is not something we struggle to do; it is who we are. We are born to serve and to be a blessing to our world.
To serve means to willingly help or do something useful for another person. Service is doing something that helps or benefits another person, whether big or small. It can be cleaning the classroom, visiting the sick, praying for someone, or sharing what you have.
Summary Of Lesson
Charity is showing love and kindness by giving or helping, and outreach is an organized effort to reach people with help and support. We learn to show compassion when we see a need in our community, and we use every opportunity God gives us to serve willingly with generosity.
MEMORY VERSE:
Galatians 6:10 (NIRV):
“So when we can do good to everyone, let us do it.”
Galatians 6:10 (KJV):
CONFESSIONS/ AFFIRMATIONS

❖ I have the nature of generosity and compassion in me!
❖ I see needs and I use every opportunity to serve!
❖ I am a blessing to my community!
❖ I show good works everywhere I go!

❖ I willingly serve others with joy and love!
TAKE HOME CHALLENGE/ACTION POINT
Share your toys or snacks with one friend this week without being told, and help Mummy or Daddy at home with one chore.
Word Study Greek Word: λογίζομαι (Logizomai) Meaning: To reckon, to count, to take inventory, to consider, to account, to impute, to conclude. It is an accounting term that means to calculate and arrive at a logical conclusion based on what is true.
Derived From: The root word Logos (λόγος), meaning Word, reason, account, and calculation.
Scripture References:
Romans 4:3 – “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted (elogisthe from logizomai) unto him for righteousness.”
Romans 6:11 – “Likewise reckon (logizesthe) ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 8:18 – “For I reckon (logizomai) that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Pastor Chris’ Teaching: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome explicitly says that“reckon” in Romans 6:11 comes from the Greek word “logizomai.” It describes it as an accounting term, with the sense of taking inventory or stock so as to be certain.
The application is that the Christian should account what God says about them as the reality, rather than live by assumptions
Romans 8:18 shows us how to use Logizomai in challenges - Paul reckoned, calculated that his present troubles are nothing compared to the glory ahead.
This is how you win in life - by spiritual accounting.
Just as Homologia is saying the same thing God says, and Epignosis is exact knowledge, Logizomai is the mental process where you agree with God's account about you and conclude that it is so.
Activity – Experiencing Logizomai
Meditation: Read Romans 6:11.
